An aerial photo shows the primitive palm-hut encampment of an isolated tribe in the remote rain forests of western Brazil. The image was captured in May 2008 by FUNAI, Brazil's Indian affairs department.

FUNAI officials said the agency photographed the group in an effort to refute claims by logging and oil interests that such "uncontacted" cultures no longer exist in the Amazon. Loss of land to clear-cutting and introduction of diseases by workers are threatening these indigenous populations with extinction.
