Sorunda Mittens
Visit the village of Sorunda, south of Stockholm, for beautifully embroidered mittens produced by a knotless knitting technique.
Slitryor
Originally plain sleeping blankets, handcrafted slitryor have been used as floor rugs since the early 20th century. Remnants of slitryor have even been found on the 17th-century warship Vasa.
Iron goods
The foundries of Uppland, the county that includes the northern half of Stockholm, have deep blacksmithing roots. You can visit the one at Wira Bruk (30 miles northeast of the city) during May to September, and, in July, see blacksmiths in action. www.wagerth.com
