Maine Information and History

Timber-products companies own nearly half of Maine's forests. Potatoes, apples, and blueberries are other offerings of the land. From the sea comes as much as 50 million pounds of lobster a year, a delicacy enjoyed by many of the almost nine million annual visitors. As development edges north, the state and conservation groups are buying up pristine lands. French speakers predominate in many towns along the state's border with Canada's Quebec Province.
