Virginia Information and History

Home to both the first permanent English settlement and one of the largest concentrations of Internet companies in America, Virginia offers a balance of modern and historical riches. The entrepreneurial spirit of the pioneers at Jamestown nearly 400 years ago lives on in Virginia's highly diversified modern economy. One-third of all jobs are in service areas, particularly business and medicine. Virginia leads the nation in coal and tobacco exports, hosts a shipbuilding industry, and is home base for the U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet. From the Atlantic to the Blue Ridge, the state offers abundant recreational and cultural attractions.
