Ballycarbery Castle, Ireland

Photograph by Jeff Mauritzen, National Geographic

Ivy covers most of what remains of 15th-century Ballycarbery Castle near Cahersiveen, County Kerry. Built in the 1500s, over the centuries much of the castle has been destroyed by enemies, fallen to time, or carted away by local villagers.
