Calanque d'En Vau, France

Photograph by Michael Melford, National Geographic

We asked our Facebook fans what their favorite summer water spots are. Esme Weatherwax offered hers: "Calanque d'En Vau near Marseille, France."

Calanque d'En Vau is an inlet surrounded by steep cliffs; climbers take to the rocks while sunbathers spread out on the sandy beach. D'En Vau is one of several calanques in the south of France.
