Mont St.-Michel, France

Photograph by Jim Richardson, National Geographic

A graveyard at the Abbaye de Mont St.-Michel in Normandy offers a sweeping view of the Bay of Mont St.-Michel. The abbey is perched on a pinnacle of rock that's buffeted by ferocious tides and winds, ringed by treacherous quicksand, and accessible only via a narrow causeway.
