Muttrah, Oman

Photograph by Gavin Hellier, Corbis

A mosque rises above other buildings on the Corniche in Muttrah, a port city near Muscat, the capital of Oman. At the mouth of the Persian Gulf and in the path of trade routes to East Africa and the Orient, Oman built a commercial empire centuries ago.

Muscat is one of the stops on a National Geographic 125th anniversary private jet expedition. Follow Digital Nomad Andrew Evans on the journey >>
