Baños, Ecuador

Photograph by Mike Theiss, National Geographic Creative

A daring visitor to the Casa del Árbol (the Tree House) in Baños, Ecuador, takes a turn on the "swing at the edge of the world." The little tree house is a monitoring station used to observe the nearby active volcano Mount Tungurahua. The swing is simply a piece of wood tethered to the tree with rope. Those brave enough to ride it swing over a steep drop with soaring mountain views.
