Photograph by Fritz Hoffmann, National Geographic
A melting iceberg, calved from the snout of Alaska's Mendenhall Glacier, carries a rock as it floats in Mendenhall Lake. The glacier has retreated more than 9,000 feet since it was measured in 1911.
