Elk gather near a freshwater lagoon at Gold Bluffs Beach in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, California. The park, managed cooperatively by the National Park Service and the California Department of Parks and Recreation, is a sanctuary dedicated to the protection of the majestic, old-growth coastal redwoods and has been named a World Heritage site and an International Biosphere Reserve.
