Molokai, Hawaii

Photograph by Jonathan Kingston, National Geographic

A regal stand of trees in Kapuaiwa Grove rises to meet the starry night sky on the island of Molokai, Hawaii. The grove was planted in the mid-1800s by King Kamehameha V, according to the most widely accepted account. It is one of Hawaii's oldest coconut groves, and some of the original trees planted are still standing.
