Mai Chau, Vietnam

Photograph by Gerhard Zwerger-Schoner, Alamy Stock Photo

The Mai Chau region of Vietnam is only a few hours' drive from bustling Hanoi, but it couldn't be further removed. Its beautiful scenery, with mountainous hills overlooking rice fields, helps make the area popular for hikers. Deforestation is an issue in the region, as more and more land is cleared for farming.
