Mount Fuji, Japan
Photograph by Yuga Kurita, National Geographic Your Shot
A predawn lenticular cloud creates a dramatic scene over Mount Fuji in Japan. Yuga Kurita took this photo and submitted it to the 2015 National Geographic Photo Contest.
"Mount Fuji creates two types of lenticular clouds. One is called kasa-gumo (umbrella cloud) and appears on top of Fuji," he writes. "The other is called tsurushi-gumo and shows up in the lee. Fuji created a huge tsurushi-gumo this morning, and it became pink just before the sunrise."
