Riomaggiore, Italy

Photograph by Matt Propert, National Geographic

The southernmost of Italy's famed Cinque Terre villages, Riomaggiore hangs from the precipitous coast in a riot of color. Though no longer unknown to tourists, the five villages' charms remain unspoiled, as does the allure of the surrounding countryside—a jumble of plunging cliffs, vineyards, olive groves, and steeply terraced slopes.
