Santa Cruz, in Spain's Canary Islands, is a low-key town on teardrop-shaped La Palma, the steepest island in the world. Clustered in the Atlantic Ocean 620 miles south of mainland Spain, the stark, volcanic Canary Islands are only 71 miles from the Atlantic coast.
