Skellig Michael, County Kerry, Ireland

Well-preserved stone structures, built by early Christian monks, overlook the Atlantic Ocean on Skellig Michael in County Kerry, Ireland. Skellig Michael, also known as Great Skellig, is one of two sea crags known as the Skellig Rocks. Sometime between the sixth and eighth centuries, a small group of monks made this remote, rocky island their home. In 1996, UNESCO declared Skellig Michael a World Heritage site. Star Wars fans may recognize it: A scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens was shot here.
