Vietnam's highlands are home to some 50 distinct ethnic minorities, including the Hmong, a tribal people known for independence and self-sufficiency. Among the Hmong, elaboration of dress is more important than elaboration of home. Women, for example, favor embroidered tunics and brimless hats.
