Trollstigen, Norway
Photograph by Luigi Vaccarella, SIME
Eleven hairpin turns send Trollstigen—the Troll's Footpath—winding back and forth along steep mountainsides in Norway. The mountain road, now a national tourist route, took eight years to construct and was opened in 1936 by King Haakon VII. Snow closes the road in winter and spring.
