Altiplano, Bolivia
Photograph by CarlDavid Granback, My Shot
This photo was taken at 4,000 meters above sea level on the high plains of southern Bolivia. In 2009-2010, I did a trip of a lifetime and cycled 12,500 kilometers across South America for one year. This photo means a lot to me and is a symbol of making a choice in life.

Boskoop, Netherlands
Photograph by Wouter van den Heuvel, My Shot
A photo shot in the Netherlands, in a small town called Boskoop. September mornings usually look great, because many mornings beautiful mist appears. The kid on the bike was on his way to school, and had no idea what kind of beautiful display of light took place right behind him.

Ladakh, India
Photograph by Praddeep Mahajan, My Shot
This lone cyclist was seen near the Nakeela pass in Ladakh, India, at a height of 16,250 feet (4,950 meters). He told me that he is on a bicycle expedition from Manali to Leh. In a day they can cover about 50 kilometers of the treacherous journey comprising of high passes, rarefied air, lack of oxygen, and unpredictable and hostile weather. For the spirit of adventure they undergo these hardships.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
Photograph by Oliver Tollison, My Shot
This image really reflects my impression of Amsterdam. Almost everyone travels by bicycle along beautiful brick streets. The architecture is amazing. The houses are so old they are crooked, yet inside most homes have been remodeled with amazing Dutch modern design. Although the vintage Citroen car is French, it's very popular in the Netherlands.

Merzouga, Morocco
Photograph by Kristin Rust, My Shot
An hour into our camel ride into the Sahara Desert in Merzouga, Morocco, a blue dot came across the endless orange sand. A man on his bike was attempting to ride up and down the huge dunes, with little success. After many spills, he soon disappeared in the distance in the opposite direction of town, leaving our group asking many questions about where he could possibly be going.

I was walking by the Louvre in Paris when it began to rain, so I decided to find a shelter. Then this girl with her bicycle came by and rested a while. My girlfriend had asked me to take a shot from Paris that's not too clichéd. As soon as I saw that women resting for a few seconds, I knew it was time to take that shot.

Kayanga, Tanzania
Photograph by Anthony Scaletta, My Shot
This photo was taken at the Saturday market in Kayanga town in the Karagwe district of Tanzania. It is impossible to not think of bananas when one thinks about Karagwe, for they are the staple crop of this district and banana palms dot the landscape everywhere you go. The sunlight that was bathing the wall behind the bikes made for the perfect still life photo op. I find this photo beautiful in its simplicity, much like the Kayanga market. Both bananas and bikes are central to rural Tanzanians.

Amsterdam, Netherlands
Photograph by Joel Metlen, My Shot
Bicycles are ubiquitous in Amsterdam, even when it snows and the canals begin to freeze over. You can't help but get at least one bike in every photo you take, or avoid being hit by a bicyclist at some point, as I was minutes before taking this photo. That will teach me to view the world through a lens-it keeps me from seeing what's coming at me from the side at breakneck speeds.

On the last leg of our coast-to-coast bicycle tour, we found respite on this beach at Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area in Pacific City, Oregon.
