Laugavegur Trail
Photograph by Ida Koric, My Shot
This is the point in Iceland's 56-kilometer Laugavegur Trek where orange rhyolite hills give way to river valleys and snow-capped peaks. There is no prelude to this moment; one reaches the height of the pass and is rendered immobile by the totality of the scene. The desire to be a part of this spectacle eventually outweighs the desire to gawk at it, and hikers commence their downward trek.

Ring Road
Photograph by William Olson, My Shot
Iceland's Route 1, commonly referred to as the Ring Road, traverses over 800 miles of scenic countryside as it encapsulates the rugged interior highlands and connects remote regions of the country to the capital, Reykjavík. This photo of the S-curve on Route 1 was captured on an overcast, damp day. The result was a wet road reflecting a bright white sky amidst a myriad of color.

Seljalandsfoss
Photograph by Amnon Eichelberg, My Shot
This shot was taken during our family tour to Iceland. This waterfall is called Seljalandsfoss. During this trip we used a motor home, so we camped about 500 meters from the beautiful waterfall. I took this image during sunset before our dinner at 10 p.m.

Reykjavík
Photograph by Vinod Krishnan, My Shot
The Hallgrímskirkja is one of the most prominent structures in this gorgeous little city. This church offers visitors the opportunity to get to the top for a bird's-eye view of downtown Reykjavík. If you can manage the strong winds that blow up there while holding a camera, and if the weather's not too bad, you'll end up having experienced something special!

Aurora Borealis
Photograph by James Appleton, My Shot
This was taken on the second night of a four-night stay on top of this glacial pass in southern Iceland. I picked the spot late in the afternoon and camped out waiting for the night to fall and hoping for some showing of the northern lights. It turned out to be one of the most memorable evenings of my life; the display was incredible.

Icelandic Horses
Photograph by Juan Maria Rivas, My Shot
This image was taken during my recent trip to Iceland. Driving around Iceland, you're always about to arrive at a new, amazing, and unexpected landscape. On this occasion, coming back from Geysir, we found these friendly horses just next to the road. Icelandic horses always enjoy the visits of strangers and make for really good models for pictures.

Námafjall Crater
Photograph by Joshua Holko, My Shot
I took this photograph just before sunrise at Námafjall in Iceland. This volcanic region of Iceland is pockmarked with craters and sulphurous fumurols. Sulphur can be seen rising off nearby vents as storm clouds brew overhead, lit with pre-dawn light.

Glacier Lagoon
Photograph by Joshua Holko, My Shot
During one of my last few days in Iceland I drove back to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and the nearby black-sand beaches to see if any fresh icebergs had washed ashore, as indeed they had. This iridescent blue iceberg, polished by the waves, was beautifully backlit and was glowing from within when I set up my tripod and took this photograph.

I took this photo some weeks ago while traveling to Iceland for a photo reportage. The man is so little, and the power of nature is amazing. I hoped this difference could be captured in this picture.
