Religious Procession
Photograph by Jak Wonderly, My Shot
A young woman dressed as Mary pauses during a religious procession to adjust her headdress. I saw her profile catch the setting sun and managed to snap a photo before she turned her head into the shadow. Taken in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Hierve el Agua, Oaxaca
Photograph by Marie Marthe Gagnon, My Shot
This picture of Hierve el Agua, taken before sunrise, shows the biggest mineral spring water pool on the site. Hierve el Agua is known for its natural rock formations that look like waterfalls. It is located at the end of a narrow, winding, unpaved, and uphill road. It is often the case in Mexico, where gravel roads end in jaw-dropping sceneries.

Rodeo
Photograph by Mike Lawrence, My Shot
A Mexican charro settles in on what must be a 1,000-pound bull during the eighth annual Mexican national championship charreada. The gate of the chute tremors with noise as the bull restlessly wrenches left and right. Rather than being scored for a seven-second ride, charros stay on the bull until it calms itself and they can safely dismount.

Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan, Jalisco
Photograph by Wayne Ross, My Shot
Basilica of Our Lady of Zapopan, Mexico. It was our first night in Mexico. The thunderstorm had just passed behind the basilica. I used an empty information booth as a makeshift tripod and clicked away using a one-second delay to eliminate camera shake as much as possible. Persistence paid off, and I was rewarded with this shot.

Whale Shark
Photograph by Jess Elder, My Shot
Encountered a whale shark in the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez) near the island of San Ildefonso. We spotted it while waiting for a group to come back from circling the small island, spotting birds. Immediately, Zodiacs were released and we followed it for about 35 minutes before it dove and swam off. Immediately following the encounter with the whale shark, a school of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins found us.

Tour guides in Mexico are required to complete two years of college in specialized education to work in this position. We were on a family vacation, and I was not planning anything but snorkeling. Learning the history, geography, and folklore became the highlight of the trip.

Oaxaca
Photograph by Chris James, My Shot
It was sort of a Henri Cartier-Bresson moment. I was walking through downtown Oaxaca, Mexico, early one morning and happened to spot these two young men carrying a ladder. I raised my camera and made this image and in an instant, they were gone. Judging from the paint on both the men and the ladder, the two were off to add some additional bright colors to this already colorful city.

Taxco Artist
Photograph by Christian Rocha, My Shot
I took this in a little picturesque town called Taxco in Mexico. The lady from the picture was carefully painting the ceramic plates that she was selling for only U.S. $5. While she was painting the plates, you could see how much she was enjoying it! She was so passionate about each plate that she didn't care how long it took to get one done. This experience reinforced my ideal that no matter what you do in life, if you do it with passion you will have a good time.

A small ash plume erupts from Colima Volcano, viewed from the top of the inactive and older Nevado de Colima Volcano, May 2007. Colima Volcano is the most active volcano in Mexico, and hence much studied, in particular for hazard and risk assessment and prevention.
