Waitangi Day
Photograph by Samuel Ackland, My Shot
I made this photo during the recent Waitangi Day dawn celebrations held atop Mount Maunganui in New Zealand. Waitangi Day is a special day to our country, when we remember the treaty that was signed between the native Maori and English people in 1840. The man pictured is the leader of the group that was partaking in the ceremony held at the top of the mountain.

Sheep
Photograph by Daiga Buike, My Shot
New Zealand is known for its sheep, but still it was surprising to see so many in one place! And they are curious, they all came to look at us!

Rainbow
Photograph by Kim Koning, My Shot
I was touring through the country of New Zealand, and this rainbow kept following me on my trip. We got onto the Forgotten World Highway and this shot presented itself. I knew I had to take this picture. The light, the shadows, and the colour contrasts were spectacular and riveting.

Cape Reinga Lighthouse
Photograph by Amos Chapple, Your Shot
The Cape Reinga Lighthouse at the northern tip of New Zealand. The Cape is sacred to the Maori of New Zealand as the "leaping off point" for the souls of the recently deceased. The souls are said to travel back north towards Hawaiiki, the origin of the Maori people.

Waikawau Bay
Photograph by Steve Burling, My Shot
Taken at Waikawau Bay, Coromandel, New Zealand. After a gorgeous drive up the coast, I was greeted with this scene. It kind of reminds me of the symmetrical paintings I did at primary school, where you painted one side then folded the paper in half. The weather always seems to provide unique opportunities up this end of New Zealand.

Skier
Photograph by Liam Doran, My Shot
This was taken in the late afternoon in New Zealand's Southern Alps. I love the way the light on the snow and the shape of the slope combine to make the skier look as though he is skiing on the face of the moon.

Mana Island Ocean Swim
Photograph by Krystle Wright, My Shot
The Mana Island Ocean Swim attracts entrants from Australia and New Zealand, as well as Fijian locals from surrounding islands. The event continues to gain momentum as participants tackle either the 500-meter, 1-kilometer, or the main feature race of 3 kilometers. Fiji provides an incredible location for ocean swimming due to its tropical blue waters and colorful reefs filled with an abundance of marine life.

Flower

While on a rock-climbing trip in deep Waikato, New Zealand, I happened upon this perfectly frozen flower waiting to open. A symbol of patience, hope, and the tenacity of life.

Moss
Photograph by Chris McKay, My Shot
An example of nature's wonderful array of life and how one form of life provides the necessary breeding ground for another form. The damp areas of the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand and its high rain volume mix to provide a great breeding ground for many varieties of moss to grow. Here a moss takes a branch as a great host, providing an opportunity for my '"Life on a Limb" shot.

Mount Aspiring National Park
Photograph by Virginia Shannon, My Shot
A night of heavy rain and fog in Mount Aspiring National Park, New Zealand, gave way to the sun slowly but surely. As the light spread through the valley it created this dramatic, illuminating effect that I couldn't resist taking my camera out for.

Near Arthur's Pass
Photograph by Sara Beach, Your Shot
My partner took this photo on the last misty day of the Three Passes tramp near Arthur's Pass, South Island, New Zealand. I love the tranquility and enchantment the photo promotes. Reminds me of the New Zealand landscape out of Lord of the Rings.

Above Makara Beach
Photograph by Lora Johnson, My Shot
The timing was right for this photo, taken from a trail above Makara Beach, as our last day on New Zealand's North Island came to an end. We were falling in love with each other and this beautiful country. A distant South Island floated on the horizon, filling my heart with curious wonder of the adventures to come on the other side of the Cook Strait.

Fly-Fishing on the Whitestone River
Photograph by Megan Delehanty, My Shot
Sometimes you have to be careful not to step on the birds and their eggs while fly-fishing in New Zealand. This was on the Whitestone. I let my friends go ahead as I photographed them carefully making their way upriver.

Racehorses
Photograph by Chris Gill, My Shot
I spent quite a bit of time around racehorses in Cambridge, New Zealand, because my mother's husband breeds them. They are amazing animals but definitely not your typical horse you see grazing in a pasture. It's like they've just ingested about 80 cups of espresso each morning. Wired is a good description!
