Uros Man, Lake Titicaca
Photograph by Ruchi Saran, My Shot
The Uros people live on floating islands in Lake Titicaca. Everything from the islands to the boats is made of totora reed, which grows abundantly in the lake. The man pictured is making a boat from it, which will last him a year.

Machu Picchu
Photograph by Kate Lindsay, My Shot
On the fourth day of the Inca Trail we set off at 4:30 a.m. and from the sun gate watched as the clouds and mist cleared to reveal the remains of this Inca settlement. We had about ten minutes before the busloads of clean-smelling tourists were shipped in, and as the mist just about dissolved I managed to photograph Machu Picchu in all its sublimity before it started its day job as a tourist attraction.

Salt Pens, Salinas
Photograph by Antonio Celso Lima Mollo, My Shot
While on a photographic workshop in Peru we visited the salt pens of Salinas, located in the Sacred Valley. Just before sunset the salt pens were colored golden yellow by the sun, nature's way of showing us visitors the true value of the mineral for that community for hundreds of years.

Sacred Valley
Photograph by Rafael Amado, My Shot
Recently, I took a trip to Peru with the intention of taking the best pictures possible from amazing places like Titicaca Lake. On my route from Cusco to Puno, throughout what they call the Sacred Valley, I saw this little boy taking care of his cows on terrain that seemed to be flooded but generates pretty good contrast and reflections, not to mention that impressive background.

Fountain, Lima
Photograph by Joro Lee, My Shot
This photo was taken on a recent trip to Lima, Peru. My wife and I were walking when we came upon this fountain and I saw the reflection. It was perfect timing because of the people sitting there enjoying the winter breeze off the Pacific Ocean. Their winter just ended and it was a good time to reflect and look toward the future.

Machu Picchu
Photograph by Ted Hall, My Shot
We had taken the early bus at 4:45 a.m. Still breaking out of our sleepy dream state, we arrived at the ancient ruined city of Machu Picchu. As dawn's fog rolled in from the surrounding mountains, the morning light suddenly streamed through. I composed my shot and snapped the shutter, wondering if I was still dreaming. We had finally arrived at the place we had read about (in National Geographic magazine) as children.

Polka Dot Tree Frog
Photograph by Paul Bratescu, Your Shot
I have always been passionate about frogs. This particular frog, the polka dot tree frog (Hyla punctata), was photographed in the lower Amazon of Peru. After travelling up two river systems, hiking into the jungle, then canoeing across an oxbow lake, we finally arrived on the other side of the lake. I was soon greeted by this little fellow. I'm thinking how beautiful it is and how delicate. This particular individual must've known it too, as he seemed very cooperative for my camera.

Dead Woman's Pass, Andes
Photograph by Matt Schiavon, My Shot
High in the Andes Mountains of Peru on a four-day trek to Machu Picchu, we reach Dead Woman's Pass, some 13,800 feet above sea level. In altitude that makes every step feel like a marathon, it was a strenuous climb to say the least. I turn around close to the top and capture one of the noble porters taking a much needed rest.

Child, Cusco
Photograph by Patrick Muniz, My Shot
I took this photo from a cafe across the street in Cusco, Peru. I was not sure if this little girl was saying a prayer and touching the cross or just placing some coins into the jar behind it afterward. I found it most interesting to photograph the kids in Peru, as they were less pertinacious about their views on politics and religion. However, they do know they are both important, and I tried to catch that curiosity through my photos. Enjoy!

Corpus Christi Celebration, Cusco
Photograph by Ernesto Ghigna, My Shot
Corpus Christi is among the most important festivities in Cusco, Peru. For that occasion, wooden statues of saints are brought on worshippers' shoulders from the churches of each barrio (district) to the main square, Plaza de Armas. It is an honor for people to participate actively in the ceremony, wearing masks and dressing in traditional clothes, performing dances that recall the battle between good and evil.

Train, Aguas Calientes
Photograph by Tzu Chun Ni, My Shot
This was at the train station of Aguas Calientes, where most tourists head to Machu Picchu. Local women were there selling their handmade art crafts. The comparison with the shiny new train behind them gave me a feeling of disconsolation. Domestic poor, foreign rich.
