Deer, like the Scottish red deer stags shown here, were once hunted as a primary food source throughout Europe. Now most of the Scottish species resides on deer farms such as the Scottish Deer Centre in Fife, Scotland. The Scottish red deer, slightly smaller than its western European relatives, is common throughout Scotland but not found on the Northern Isles.
