Koslådalen, Svalbard, Norway

Backcountry skiers enjoy a sunset outing in Koslådalen in Svalbard, Norway's remote Arctic archipelago. More than 60 percent of Svalbard is protected land, and although it's not evident in this photo of a desolate-looking Koslådalen plateau, Svalbard is home to a variety of wildlife that has adapted to the area's bitter cold and meager vegetation.
