Horses

Category: Outdoor Scenes

Photo and caption by Sephira Salazar

This photo was taken on the fourth and final day of participating a mysterious, ancient Andean pilgrimage, Qoyllur Ritti' (Resplendent Snow), which takes place annually hidden in the high altitudes of the Andes. The ritual associated with the fertility of the land and the worship of the Apus (mountain spirits) is an important manifestation of syncretism - a fusion of Catholic and Incan pagan traditions. These wild horses were miles from civilization and put into perspective the vast scale and majesty of the landscape. They are sharing an intimate moment.

Location: Mount Ausangate, Peru
