Reverence in Candle Light

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Chris Moloney

Small prayer candles add their flickering light to that filtering in through several large stained glass windows in the cavernous, shadowy interior of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. The somber, sanctified atmosphere inside the cathedral—where the air is filled with the hushed excitement and whispered prayers of thousands of travelers from all walks of life—is both humbling and creatively inspiring. The play of the candle light was especially intriguing, so I took this photograph using my Mamiya ZE with 160 ISO, 35mm color print film and a fixed length 50mm f/1.4 lens.
