The aftermath

Category: Outdoor Scenes

a couple of weeks after the Grimsvotn volcano erupted in South Iceland, my husband and I were there on holidays, which was a perfect opportunity to see from up close the aftermath of the eruption. On a trekking trip on the Svinafellsjokull glacier tongue we were able to walk on ash covered glacial ice - a rather lunar and surreal landscape. The safety guide was always ahead, creating a great contrast on the black ice.

Location: Vatnajokull National Park, Iceland
