A couple pauses in the doorway of a restaurant in Siena to watch a brightly-clad young man twirl his flag as a part of the numerous parades taking place that June day. These parades, each held by the various contrade, or districts of the city, occur in preparation for the Palio, the medieval horse race that occurs every July and August in the Piazza del Campo, the center of the city.

Location: Siena, Italy
