Through the Shade of Blue

Across the Friday Mosque of Herat boasting of its two elegant blue minarets, the white bearded old man wearing turban on his head, sitting on the dark red carpet in front of his shop while enjoying his cup of afternoon tea. He invites me to get inside his shop and happily play the DVD of him doing the glassblowing. His small shop is full of the famous Afghan blue blown glass, shaped from cups to vases on different sizes and range in hue from aquamarine to deep navy. Perhaps if Herat were in monochrome, blue would be its chosen color.
Location: Herat, south-western region, Afghanistan
