Cupressus Macrocarpa

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Alicia Burbridge

Since the beginning of time there has been myth and folklore surrounding the majestic tree. It supplies us with the simple necessities we need to thrive as a race. Wood to start fires so we are able to enjoy a good meal, keep warm and in ancient times a place for ritual. Wood to secure our heads from rain and harsh weather. Wood that has been manipulated to form instruments for our pleasure and enjoyment. No wonder there are tree huggers and tree worshipers around the globe. Strong, vulnerable, delicate and wise this tree had commanded my attention. A true beauty is the lone Monterey Cypress.

Location: Carmel, CA
