Sunlit Glacier

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Judith Morgan

Perito Merino Glacier is one of the few stable glaciers in the world, neither advancing nor retreating. It was late in the afternoon on a very overcast day, and the surrounding Nothofagus forests were deeply shaded. We were enjoying watching the glacier calving frequently, when suddenly, sunlight pierced the clouds and illuminated the glacier.

Location: Near El Calafate, Argentina
