Life on the Bay

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Andrea Schaffer

A small girl rows a boat at the floating fishing village of Vung Vieng, located on Halong Bay in Vietnam. The village has a population of several hundred residents, many of whom spend their entire lives on the water, getting around by rowboat. While traditionally they have relied on fishing and aquaculture to support themselves, recently they have had to turn to tourism to supplement their income.

Location: Halong Bay, Vietnam
