A Fork In Life's Deserted Road

Category: Outdoor Scenes

Photo and caption by Julie Shum

This is the Atacama Desert. A 250 kilometer ultra-marathon is held here annually. Many of us have faced a time in our lives where we felt alone in making a major decision. A lot of the ultra-marathoners were motivated by such life-events to undertake this race. This photo was taken after their third day of racing, having already walked 110 kilometers. It represents their need for diligent navigation through the desert, and in their lives, in order to conquer the forks in the road and move on to the next challenge.

Location: Atacama Desert, Chile
