Juvenile Japanese Macaque

Category: Outdoor Scenes

Photo and caption by Kiat Teo

The Japanese Macaque (Macaca fuscata), commonly referred to as the Snow Monkey because of their habit of playing in the snow and warming themselves in natural hot springs, known as Onsen, can only be found in Jigokudani (Hell Valley) located in the mountains near Nagano, I was up at 850 meters in elevation with subzero temperature; braving through the harsh environment where snow covers the ground for one-third of the year I captured this elusive animal portrait.

Location: Jigokudani (Hell Valley) located in the mountains near Nagano, Japan.
