Balaji Blessings

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Stephanie Bower

Many hundreds of Hindus flock to this small village in northern India to visit the Balaji temple where healings and exorcisms are preformed. Walking down the crowded dirt road, we came across these three Sadhus, who after giving them a small bit of money, placed their hands on my head and offered a blessing. No pressure, it was quite lovely. I asked to take their photo, and they graciously said yes. They seem to personify the intensity of life, color, and grace of spirit I found in rural India.

Location: Balaji Temple, Mehandipur, Northern India
