Proud Fire

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Erica Jones

I recently visited the Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania. My Goal, besides seeing the wildlife, was understanding the culture of the people. I was able to visit a Maasai tribe where I learned that tradition is everything and life is nothing with out respect of your environment. These woman were standing on the outskirts of their Boma wearing red plaids to convey fire which they believe keeps predators away that lived in the surrounding space. I love the sense pride these people have in their lifestyle.

Location: Ngorogoro Crater, Tanzania
