Tonle Sap Girl & Baby with Python

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Christine Marlewski

If you travel to Tonle Sap Lake outside of Siem Reap in Cambodia, you will be struck by the seeming "normalness" of a floating fishing village where the children attend a floating school, and even play on a floating basketball court. Smiles, studies, and life as usual...just on the water. Until, however, you see the squalor in which these people have learned to survive, the waste floating in the water, and are approached by one of the children walking around with pythons, or floating in tins no bigger than garbage can lids with these pythons...hoping for $1 to allow you to hold the snake...

Location: Tonle Sap Lake Floating Village, Cambodia
