Brazen Beauty

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Swami Mahesh

When I visited Auschwitz Concentration camp in 2010 I was numbed by the biting cold of minus 18 degree Celsius and the sheer size and planning of the 'killing factory' at the concentration camps. I walked feeling the eerie silence, and imagining the scene of this place when it was in full use i stumbled close to a barbed fence toward the destroyed gas chambers and I found this frozen dew drops hanging magically on the barbed wire. Shot with a simple Canon Power Shot SD1200IS this pic represents some kind of hope and beauty to me imposed on the stark and brutal looking barbed wire fence.

Location: Auschwitz II - Birkenau, Poland
