Windmills in the Borderlands

Just outside Kyiv, Ukraine, in the village of Pirogov, is a most amazing collection of structures. The Museum of Folk Architecture and Customs has over 300 buildings creating villages from various regions of the country. Churches, windmills, thatched roofed cottages and barns show the "real" Ukraine as compared to the nearby cosmopolitan capital city of Kyiv. This windmill is an example of the wooden structures of the rural Borderlands. Several "open-air" museums exist in Ukraine but this one at Pirogov is the most spectacular.

Location: Pirogov, Ukraine
