Spring comes to Nepal

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Christine McNab

When spring comes to Nepal, rhododendron flowers hang like red jewels and sparkle in the sunshine across the hills and valleys. The "Lali Gurans" are Nepal's national flower. When they bloom, children scramble to pick them and arrange bouquets, offering these for a few rupees on the roadside. These children lept towards our vehicle the moment they saw us. We bought all of their flowers, and they celebrated with leaps and happy shouts as we pulled away.

Location: On the road between Dadheldura and Dhangadi in eastern Nepal.
