Varanasi Sun Rise

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Margaret Farrell

Sun rise on the River Ganges at Varanasi is one of the enduring memories of India. The sun had not yet appeared, and there was a slight mist on the surface of the of the sacred river. There were a large number of Buddhist monks dressed in brown robes who over-loaded one of the boats. Pity the poor boatman! Note that even the monks were not immune to the attentions of hawkers.

Location: Ganges River, Varanasi, India
