the party's over

Category: Sense of Place

Every time I go into an abandoned home I'm always shocked at the detritus left by the family. This is not a place where they packed up to move out. This is a place left in some kind of haste. Dishes are scattered in the sink, picked clean by bugs. A single shoe is on the bedroom floor covered by dust and mold; the hole in the roof is causing everything to mold over. And in the living room, I stepped over an old balloon a half dozen times to get other shots before I saw it. I didn't need to touch a thing. Just lay down and take the shot. This is where a family once held dreams.

Location: mid michigan
