I surrender - black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas)

Category: Spontaneous Moments

Photo and caption by Yong Wah Sim

This pair are from the same litter, were watched by me for two days in front of a water hole. Most of the time playing and chasing after birds that were drinking in the water hole and occasionally catching one, which amazed me at their skill and swiftness in catching birds. Suddenly they bust into a fight which lasted about a minute with one finally crotching down in submission, and raising one of it's front paw as if saying "I Surrender"
