A Dam Man

Category: Sense of Place

Photo and caption by Megan Vasko

Taken near Amsterdam's main train station, this photo captures one of the many colourful residents of the country's capital. It's not clear where he is from or where he is going but for now, he's an Amsterdamer. The word "Amsterdam" often conjures up images of red lights, "coffeeshops" and windmills. This photo represents an aspect of everyday Amsterdam, the musicians that residents and tourists stroll by on their way to work, school or their next destination. These individuals are like grace notes - you may not notice each one, but without them the composition would not be the same

Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
