I woke up one morning at a friend's place near the National Zoo in Washington, DC and decided to spend the morning photographing Orangutans in the hope of capturing something special. This particular one was hiding under a bail of hay close to the edge of the viewing area. I waited while children and families came and went. Once everyone had gone, I walked over and crouched down nearby. Not more than a few seconds later did it pulled its head up and sat in this position. We both sat there staring at one another. I almost missed the photo because I was enraptured by the moment.
