Sulphur MIner

Category: Travel Portraits

Photo and caption by Markus Schneider

The Ijen volcano produces a lot of sulphur, the locals carry the big yellow pieces out of the 200 m deep crater and down the mountain. They use bamboo baskets for the load that weights up to 90 kg. With the constant sulphur smoke the working conditions are terrible.

Location: Ijen volcano, Java, Indonesia
