Cooper's Hawk & Pigeon

Category: Spontaneous Moments

Photo and caption by Chad Murdock

I was driving to work when out of the sky dropped a hawk, holding a pigeon in it's talons. I knew that it must be a Cooper's Hawk, as they can attack birds in flight. I immediately stopped my car, grabbed my camera and shot this picture. I assumed the pigeon was too big for the hawk to move out of the street. Shortly though a couple walked by and the hawk lifted the pigeon easily to a nearby building roof to finish it off. A rare moment!
