Smile

This shot of a coastal brown bear never fails to make me smile. I love that it's slightly raining, and he looks so happy and refreshed with his head up, without a care in the world! This was taken in Kukak Bay, Alaska, on a trip with my mother for her annual family reunion in June 2012. Bears rely heavily on their sense of smell and stick their nose in the air frequently to sense what is around them. So in reality, we were standing about 25m away, so he was probably smelling us, mid-chew.

Location: Kukak Bay, Alaska, USA
